JAHKIL – PROJECT I AM
When Jahkil was just 5 years old, he helped his aunt distribute food to individuals dealing with homelessness, and from then on, he knew that he wanted to do more to make a difference. So at age 8, Jahkil started Project I Am to help the homeless in Chicago, and he continues to have a heartfelt desire to help those in need.
It quickly became Jahkil’s mission to build awareness of homelessness and to help the homeless population by offering those in need what he calls “Blessing Bags,” a giveaway filled with wipes, socks, deodorant, hand sanitizer, granola bars, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bottled water, and more.
Jahkil has set and surpassed many goals in his young life. Distributing his Blessing Bags to the homeless has been one of his biggest achievements thus far. In just a few years, Jahkil’s efforts have touched over 30,000 men, women and children across the world.
Jahkil was a 2017 Barron Prize winner.
IYH Behind the Scenes
Jahkil’s video was the first ever filmed at IYH. It was a chilly day in early winter when we filmed his story on the south side of Chicago.
Inspiring Young Heroes features videos of inspiring kids. These videos highlight the life-changing work of everyday young people who tell their stories and show how one person – no matter what age or circumstance – has the power to make a difference.
